What are the general guidelines in selecting a gate, and what materials are best to use?

Gates can be swing or sliding types. Swing types can be one single leaf or two swing sections.

A Sliding gate provides a good solution and use of space when you have a small yard area and have a fence to slide behind.

With sliding gates you need to measure the gate opening and add extra length to allow for the motor and the gates guides. The average opening length for a sliding gate is a 4m opening and a 5m gate; therefore you need to allow for a 9m track in the ground. Measure along your fence line to make sure you have the length required. Remember that the average car is normally about 1.8m wide and a large truck is no more than 2.5m wide so the residential gate openings can be made from 2.5m wide to 4m depending on how much land you have available. The key to sliding gates is to use quality Combi Arialdo brand hardware - tracks and wheels which we import and sell.

With swing gates we have automation systems for the small pedestrian gates to large gates to 5 metre wide as standard stock items. If you decide to have a single larger gate leaf example 3.6m wide this will require a larger automation system and an electric lock, than if you selected to have two 1.8m gates with smaller automations and you will not normally require an electric lock.

Gates can be manufactured from steel or aluminium which is normally hot dipped galvanised and then it can be powder coated. Stainless Steel Gates and Timber Gates can also be automated.
